<![CDATA[A Christmas Carol Challenge]]>Sat, 19 Dec 2020 18:37:09 GMThttp://www.cozyreverie.com/blog/a-christmas-carol-challenge
A Christmas Carol is one of my favorite ghost stories. This classic Dickens tale has been done in so many different ways, every single one bringing a new life to story.⁣ While I am partial to Mickey's Christmas Carol (nostalgia strikes again!), I always look forward to new versions (FX's mini-series is a recent win in my book). Scrooged, The Muppet's Christmas Carol, plus the many versions that go by the book's title just go to show how timeless this story can be for everyone.⁣

So for 6 days, I did a dress up challenge of the characters of A Christmas Carol :) These are the projects that come out of nine months in self-quarantine!
<![CDATA[Fitted Masks on Redbubble]]>Tue, 01 Dec 2020 23:05:06 GMThttp://www.cozyreverie.com/blog/fitted-masks-on-redbubble
Okay, okay, I talk about masks a lot, but can you blame me? People still refuse to wear them during a pandemic. All I'm trying to do is encourage more people to wear a mask, so if my art can do it, I'm giving it my best shot.

Which brings me to Redbubble's latest design: Fitted Masks! I'm not exaggerating when I say these are my favorite ones by far, especially since my art can be printed on them. They are really comfortable and I feel safer wearing this version, as opposed to their double-layered masks.

Details from the Redbubble site:
  • Premium face-fitting mask with quality construction and vibrant print
  • Adjustable rounded non-elastic ear straps with toggle beads
  • Glasses-friendly nose wire for a snug fit
  • Three layers include two soft cotton inner layers and a polyester outer layer
  • Available in two unisex sizes. Check size guide for measurements.
  • Printed and sewn just for you when you order
  • Wash after each use
  • For use by ages 13 and older only. Should not be used by or placed on anyone who has trouble breathing or who is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance, including children under age 3
Note: One thing I noticed in the printing process is that small, detailed art will not print very well on the polyester fabric. I removed those designs from being an option in my shop, but if you are shopping other artists, I would suggest going with big, bold prints. These printed great!

<![CDATA[DIY Reversible Collars]]>Wed, 11 Nov 2020 16:25:48 GMThttp://www.cozyreverie.com/blog/diy-reversible-collars
Geek-inspired collars!

I've been wanting to add subtle accessories to my wardrobe and this DIY makes it so easy. These are cut-and-sew projects that I have added to my Spoonflower shop. When ordering the fat quarter size, you will get one reversible collar. If you order a yard, you will get four collars (in case you would like to make a few as gifts).

Directions are included too! All you would need is a sewing machine and a ribbon to add to the front.

This design is inspired by Jurassic Park. I have also added a few holiday and food collars. Keep your eyes peeled for more designs!

<![CDATA[Halloween 2020]]>Sat, 31 Oct 2020 07:00:00 GMThttp://www.cozyreverie.com/blog/halloween-2020
I used to give myself a huge guilt trip if I didn't make my costumes for every event in my life. See, I studied costume design in college and while I am proud of this, sometimes a girl is just plain TIRED.

Back at CSUN, I was a full-time student with access to an amazing costume shop. The various machines received daily maintenance, there were dress forms in a variety of sizes, irons and accessories galore, plus OMG so much table space! But now, I work full time, have two temperamental machines I lack patience to fix, only myself to measure (do you know how hard it is to measure yourself? So inaccurate!), limited supplies, and only a circular dining table for counter space.

To be clear, I'm not complaining. Having a costume shop in my home is not anywhere close to the top of my to-do list. What I am saying is that I have finally learned to be gentle with myself. The time and resources I used to have are not an option right now and that's okay! Sure, I can try to make it, but do I really want to squeeze 40 unnecessary hours of work into my schedule, just because of guilt? That's a HARD pass.

Big events, especially around the holidays, are known to add a whole lot of stress to our lives (not to mention we are still living through a pandemic). Remember to be gentle with yourself. Know your limits. Take a moment each day to see what is and what isn't working for your mental health. I realized that just because I have the ability to make something doesn't mean I have to. It's okay to pay for convenience. I am allowed to buy my costume, so I did. In fact, I bought three LOL.

<![CDATA[Halloween Fabric Patterns]]>Mon, 12 Oct 2020 01:21:33 GMThttp://www.cozyreverie.com/blog/halloween-fabric-patterns
With Spoonflower, sometimes I design quite a few patterns that I want to make available, but rarely don't have enough projects in mind to buy yards of each one. This time around, I bought fabric swatches and made masks for myself. Now all the designs below have been added to the shop! My favorites are the skeleton dancers. :)

<![CDATA[DIY Spooky Doll]]>Mon, 07 Sep 2020 13:00:00 GMThttp://www.cozyreverie.com/blog/diy-spooky-doll
I made my Nadja doll! I love this show so much and am planning on re-watching it for spooky season. How fun would a #WhatWeDoInTheShadows virtual marathon be? Omg, happy vampires everywhere! In case you can't remember which episode Nadja's doll came to life, re-watch "Ghosts", season 2, episode 2. :)

If you want to make one for yourself, it's in my Spoonflower shop. Just be sure to protect her from Colin Robinson *wink*!⁣

<![CDATA[The (Virtual) Star Wars Celebration]]>Mon, 31 Aug 2020 13:00:00 GMThttp://www.cozyreverie.com/blog/the-virtual-star-wars-celebration
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Star Wars Celebration Anaheim was postponed to 2022, but that didn't stop fans from celebrating! When they first announced that the event would be post-poned, I was both bummed out and relieved. Selfishly, I wanted it to happen, but I also didn't want anyone to risk spreading the virus. Well, the fandom community definitely made the best of it. Thanks to the many creators, and especially the Galactic Coven (@galactic_coven on Instagram!), there was so much fun content to consume this past weekend.

While following along with the panels, tutorials and small business shop fun, I posted a few Star Wars looks that I planned on wearing during the celebration. I will probably change my mind by 2022, so here are the looks that could have been walking around the Anaheim Convention Center:

Day 1: Ahsoka Tano

I made this mask back in April, thinking it was slightly paranoid since Covid-19 would totally be under control by August...and yet, here we are, mask still relevant, but at least it's my favorite one! The design was made specifically to match this @heruniverse tee.

Day 2: Padmé Amidala

Padmé tells the handmaidens what happened on the balcony. You just know Sabé had opinions! LOL

Day 3: Crimson Dawn tee

I had originally planned on an original cosplay outfit for Saturday, but since the event was postponed, I decided to wait on constructing it. For the virtual celebration, I designed a Crimson Dawn tee that I imagine Qi'ra might wear on a lazy day.

Day 4: Galactic Coven Gala

This outfit was a whole new concept for this weekend! The Galactic Coven hosted a virtual party inspired by Canto Bight. I loved this idea and had so many styles I wanted to try, but kept it simple this time around. If I had more time to plan, I think I would have tried an alien headpiece. Instead, I spent more time on creating a character rather than the outfit LOL! You can see more looks from all the lovely attendees via the #GalacticCovenGala hashtag on Instagram.

Meet Jadonna Kraz, ambassador from New Bornalex. Kraz is relatively new in her position, but clear on what she hopes to achieve. While still very green on the political aspect of socializing, she has quickly become the young celebrity that people love or hate (there is no in-between). She has carefully hidden her association with the Resistance, by consistently disavowing any connection and maintaining plausible deniability. Even her wealthy family, which are well-known First Order supporters, do not know she has been funneling funds and resources to General Organa's cause. Kraz's greatest strength is her empathy, which enables her to focus on her mission. Fueled by an early teenage memory, when she learned of the kidnapped children that were raised to become stormtroopers, she will stop at nothing to help bring back justice and balance to the galaxy. Only on her second visit to Canto Bight, she hopes to establish and solidify more relationships this time around, with the possibility of creating more allies.
<![CDATA[Face Shields on Zazzle]]>Mon, 24 Aug 2020 22:47:02 GMThttp://www.cozyreverie.com/blog/face-shields-on-zazzle
Got my face shield and honestly, I barely notice I'm wearing it! It's so easy to put on and clean, so I'm a big fan. Plus, I was able to add my artwork! Can you tell this look was inspired by the Tiki Room?
You can find more of my designs on face shields via the link below. Zazzle also has licensed designs (my husband got a Scooby Doo one, and Lou got the Bugs Bunny design), which are really fun and get a ton of compliments. ⁣⁣
Please note: face shields are not meant to replace masks. They are an added precaution. Wear both if you can, but if you can't, stick to the layered facemasks. ⁣⁣
