I feel like I am buying a new pair of shoes for my son every few weeks. Yes, it is normal, but it still surprises me every time he has grown out of a pair. However, this trip to Target was different. This little guy actually chose this pair.
In the past, Brody never cared about his shoes. He would just wear whatever I chose, with no opinion or discussion. On this particular search for his size 13s, we took my "better half", Patrick, with us. Patrick spotted these bright blue and neon green shoes the moment we stepped into the shoe department. I scoffed immediately and shook my head at him because I knew those shoes would not match with half of Brody's wardrobe. In my mind, it would be silly to buy them.
Well, of course, Brody chose them. With two against one, the brighter-than-life sneakers made it into the cart.
At least we thought they did.
Once we were at home, I realized Brody's brand new pair of shoes never even made it to check out. My poor little Brodster was so bummed. To make it up to him, I told him we would go back the next day and he would be allowed to pick a new book for bedtime. Problem solved (this kid is still easy sometimes)!
As if he did it on purpose, he chose the lesser-known Dr. Suess book, "Ten Apples Up On Top!" This book actually MATCHES his shoes!
I was so concerned with the shoes not matching anything. I guess he showed me, huh?
It has been a week now, and Brody is still very proud of his new kicks. I must confess: I actually like them now. They are so vibrant and fun. I love that they don't match his clothes. They are more "Brody-like" than any other shoes I've ever picked out for him.
Unfortuately, that means Patrick was right. Please don't tell him. ;)
