Tomorrow is International Dot Day! For those that aren't familiar with it, International Dot Day is a chance to celebrate creativity in our every day lives. It's basically the Cozy Reverie mantra, right?
I recently discovered this global event by chance on Pinterest (I have no idea what I was searching for at the time) and loved the idea. It all began with the book, The Dot, written by Peter H. Reynolds, which encourages one young girl to make her mark. With just one little dot, an whole new world opens up for her.
So how does one celebrate such a day? Here are five quick tips on how to make tomorrow one fun-filled day!
1. Read the Book!
DUH, right? Trust me, you'll love it! It's short and wonderfully sweet. It is available in paperback and hard cover at book retailers, but if you are running short on time (and cash), you can purchase the e-book versions for your iPad or Kindle.
2. Make Art
This goes hand-in-hand with the book. After all, this is how Vashti learned how to make her mark in the world. The best part is that you can make a dot out of anything. Markers, crayons, construction paper, cookies with circle sprinkles - the possibilities are endless! Your dots can be simple or you can dress them up! It's totally up to you.
3. Wear Clothing with Dots
Circles! Polka dots! Go shopping or make your own! I love celebrating the every day and what better way to do so than to have an outfit for it? I've got a polka dot dress waiting in my closet for just the occasion.
4. Decorate Your Space
International Dot Day is about discovering how to make your mark. How about making your mark in your home, office, or classroom! Art prints, garland, stationary and more! P.S. If you like my artwork above, you can download the free printable here.
5. Encourage Someone to Join You
This is the beauty of the concept of International Dot Day. Not only should you let yourself be open to creativity, but you can also encourage someone else! Vashti's teacher did this for her and she passed this on to the little boy who admired her (#SpoilerAlert - whoops!). So read with child, make art with husband, go shopping with your best friend, and decorate with your students!
There you have it! 5 way to jump into a new world of creativity. Really make tomorrow a day to remember. You may just find that spark inside you that you never knew was there.
