Thrifty DIY Wedding, Part 11: Wedding Dessert
Once again, we didn't take the traditional route of a wedding cake. Frankly, I've never been a fan of cutting a cake and I didn't want to ask anyone else to do that for us. I also didn't want to pay a cake cutter. Cupcakes just sounded so much easier!
Now the search for the cupcakes. Since there is a huge trend for fancy and rich pastries, they were not hard to find. However, the cost was a bit out of our price range. Even with Groupons, the discount didn't seem to make it worthwhile. Call me a penny-pincher, but knowing that we were also going to have plenty of food, snacks, and drinks, I just couldn't see us spending over $100 on dessert.
Thank goodness for my parents and sister! They discovered that the local El Super had a bakery that did custom orders. For eight dozen cupcakes, it came out to a total of $40. No, that is NOT a typo - Forty dollars! This goes to show that you can always get creative, even when trying to save a bit of money.
