The Haunted Mansion is probably the scariest place I will ever visit willingly. I've done Knott's Scary Farm and Universal Studios Hollywood Horror Nights in the past, but it's just not for me. I'm a wuss and completely own it!
Still the home of the 999 happy haunts is so incredibly well done, and very few could match the incredible detailing and craft that went into this evolving attraction. The Portraits mug was inspired by the elevator and is still a favorite in the shop. I recently searched for the actual script of the opening monologue, and I dare you to tell me it doesn't give you chills just by reading it:
Welcome, foolish mortals, to the Haunted Mansion. I am your host, your ghost host. Kindly step all the way in please and make room for everyone. There's no turning back now.
Disneyland brought back the legendary Hat Box Ghost to the Haunted Mansion this year, just in time for the 60th anniversary of the park. I remember watching the effect for the first time and trying to figure out how it worked. It's so rad so if you haven't seen it yet, schedule a stop at the Haunted Mansion the next time you visit New Orleans Square.
I draw, make, and occasionally tell a story.
