Today is the Brodster's Halloween Carnival at school and he couldn't be more excited. Dress up, food, games, prizes, and candy - what more could a kid want? A couple of days ago, they added a pumpkin decorating contest and we just couldn't pass up a creative opportunity. When Brody found out he gets to take his pumpkin to school, he was so pumped! We wanted him to be able to do the majority of the work on his entry, meaning not a lot of complicated carving. With the whole painted pumpkin craze this season, this DIY project is perfect for little ones.
Brody is dressing up as his favorite ninja, the tech-savvy Donatello from TMNT. We figured why not have his pumpkin match his costume? Here's Mikey!
Make your own ninja turtle pumpkin with the instructions below:
- Cleaned out pumpkin (be sure to take the proper precautions to delay the pumpkin rotting)
- Green, White, and Black Acrylic Paint
- Fun Halloween Movie (We watched Curious George's BooFest on Netflix)
Step One: From your cleaned out pumpkin, all you will be cutting out is the eyes. You can make them any shape you would like. We chose the traditional semi-circle.
Step Two: With the marker, draw the mask line and the mouth shape.
Step Three: TIME TO PAINT! Do the green first, which is above and below the mask area. Let dry.
Leave the mask area untouched; the orange of the pumpkin will become Michelangelo's mask.
Step Four: Paint the teeth with the white paint. Let dry.
Step Five: Outline the mouth and teeth with the black paint. Let dry.
