Thrifty DIY Wedding, Part Seven: DecorationsThe original idea for the wedding décor was lots and lots of balloons! However, that was quickly nixed because the outdoor location was known for windy weather, which risked the strands getting tangled. The main reason I wanted balloons was because it was a much less expensive alternative to flowers and much more colorful. I really wanted to try this idea as a wedding backdrop, but it's too bad it wasn't going to work in the breeze. We added a few helium balloons to golf tees and staked them to the ground, but with the winds, those quickly popped. We spent $40 on two helium tanks, which came with 60 balloons and ribbon. However, we didn't really need wedding décor. The beautiful location was more than enough. Grape Arbor Park was wonderfully green and open and sunny. Nature tends to be the ultimate wedding décor - take full advantage of it! An outdoor wedding was a money saver, and we didn't even know it. There was one surprise at the wedding! A beautiful piece made by my creative parents and wonderful sister. This trip down memory lane was inspired by this pin here. We loved it! Our guests got a kick out of seeing those memories. It made the wedding just that much more special for the Watkinez family.
