#Dressember11/19/2014 While catching up on my Bloglovin' feed, I read that one of my favorite bloggers is joining the Dressember movement. I had never heard of it before, so I did a little digging. This is why I love following other bloggers; there's always a chance you will discover something new! I have written about the organization, Friends & Helpers, for a few years now, which focuses on help women (and men) in abusive domestic environments. Dressember goes a bit further. In 2013, Dressember partnered with International Justice Mission, which is a human rights organization that works to rescue victims of slavery, sexual exploitation, and violent oppression. Participating in Dressember is about showing your support of the abolition of modern day slavery. This challenge "creates an opportunity to advocate for the inherent feminity and dignity of all women". I grew up in a family of incredibly strong women. Thankfully, I have not been a victim of abuse, nor have I ever witnessed it first hand. That doesn't mean it exists any less. To be quite honest, it has always been hard for me to listen to the stories of abused women. My mind just can't grasp the reality of those situations because of how horrific they can be. So if I can help them, even through my humble little blog, I am all for it. How does it work, you ask? For the month of December, I am committing to wearing a dress every day. That's 31 days of dresses! The lounging around in pjs will have to wait til January. I have created a campaign page to help raise funds for the cause. You can even join me by wearing a dress every day, if you'd like! Guys, that means you too. ;) Would You Like to Sponsor me? Click Here!
