Since I'm in major Disney mode this week, I thought I'd feature a few of my blog posts that I have been working on this year at A Waltz Through Disney. My ongoing project is a series of nursery ideas for the Disney lover. However, it's not for the typical "Mickey Mouse" or "Winnie the Pooh" theme. You can walk into any retailer and get the items you need for those. No no, my approach has been for movies that are rarely featured, like The Sword in the Stone or Robin Hood.
This series was largely inspired by the fact that we could not find a lot of Peter Pan inspired nursery items. What's up with that? This movie has one of the most famous nurseries - the Darling nursery! I mean, come on! Yes, there is plenty of Tinkerbell stuff out there, but I couldn't believe how hard it was to find items that were unisex. Above and below are two nurseries inspired by the classic film that would cater to either gender.
It takes a bit more patience to get nursery themes put together. I do love that retailers have baby room packages practically put together for you, but it doesn't leave much room for making it your own. I'm a big fan of being creative where I can. For quite of few of these collections, I had to search multiple shops and sites to get a good fit for the film. One trick to use is not looking for movie specific items; Look for matching the themes. For example, with Robin Hood, I searched for an "arrow-printed crib sheet" as opposed to a "Disney's Robin Hood" print. For Hercules, search for a "Greek rug" to add to the room, not a "Hercules nursery".
If you're willing to put in the extra work, you can create a really great Disney-themed baby room! Below are just a few ideas to inspire your own brainstorming. Feel free to follow along at the Waltz blog for more of the Disney nursery series!
I draw, make, and occasionally tell a story.
